French newspaper: Gantz showed his true face through his party’s vote to bury the two-state solution
Under the headline: “The Israeli Parliament buries the two-state solution,” the French newspaper “L’Emanette” said that with the intensification of the bombing on the Gaza Strip, members of the Israeli Parliament adopted a resolution rejecting the two-state solution and the establishment of a Palestinian state, against which only the communists and Arabs in the Knesset voted. It is a vote that Peace Now described as “populist and harmful to the chances of reaching a regional agreement and ending the war.”
The French newspaper explained that the proposal did not come from the extreme right, but rather from the Israeli right. The “New Hope - United Right” party, which broke away from the Likud Party led by Benjamin Netanyahu, presented a draft resolution on the morning of July 18 before the Knesset, in which it stated that “ “The establishment of a Palestinian state in the heart of the Land of Israel will pose an existential threat to the State of Israel and its citizens, perpetuate the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and destabilize the region.”
The head of this party, Gideon Sa’ar, explained that “the decision aims to express the general opposition that exists among the (Israeli) people to the establishment of a Palestinian state, which would endanger the security and future of Israel.” The resolution sends a message to the international community that “pressure to impose a Palestinian state on Israel is futile.”
Communist MP Ayman Odeh believed that “those who voted against the Palestinian state do not want peace, do not want security, and above all do not want justice.” Whoever raises his voice against peace and security is a traitor to the true interests of his people. There will be a Palestinian state alongside the state of Israel. Everyone will be safe. There will also be peace. The question is how many dead we will have to bury, and how many loved ones we will have to mourn until we get there,” Limaniti points out.
Hussein Al-Sheikh, Secretary of the Palestine Liberation Organization, believes that the Knesset’s decision confirms Israel’s “racism” and “its disregard for international law and its policy aimed at perpetuating the occupation,” continues the French newspaper.
Limaniti went on to explain that, officially, this vote has no significance. However, it has strong political importance. First, it highlights the rejection of the establishment of a Palestinian state by the majority of Israeli representatives, not just Netanyahu and the far right.
For weeks, the United States has not hidden its preference for Benny Gantz, the leader of the National Unity Party, who, in their view, will be more unified and capable of ending the war. But the former chief of staff showed his true face, which is not much different from Netanyahu's face. Because if it is important to achieve a ceasefire so that the entire population of Gaza does not disappear under the bombs, it is also necessary to prepare for the future, that is, the end of the occupation and the establishment of a Palestinian state.
The French newspaper continued to say that Netanyahu, who is supposed to speak before the US Congress on July 24 and meet with Joe Biden at the White House, has already sent a clear message to the whole world and to all those who have supported him since October 7 and are not trying to stop the policy. Its genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, where it unleashes settlers.
The International Criminal Court could issue an arrest warrant against him within two weeks. Nothing is better than war to escape all prosecutions.
Before Netanyahu headed to Washington, the International Court of Justice said that the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories is illegal, stressing that the Israeli settlement policy in the West Bank and East Jerusalem violates international law. This is the first time that this international body has issued a position on this subject.
