United Nations: Israel continues to prevent fuel needed for relief in Gaza
The United Nations reported that Israeli authorities are still preventing the provision of fuel to humanitarian aid workers, which is hampering the distribution of food in the Gaza Strip.
United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said during the daily press conference on Tuesday that dozens were killed and wounded in the recent Israeli attacks on Gaza.
On Monday, the government media office in the Gaza Strip said, “More than 320 martyrs and wounded arrived at hospitals during the past 48 hours, with burned bodies as a result of Israel’s use of internationally banned weapons.”
Dujarric indicated that one of the attacks occurred 100 meters from the center where humanitarian aid operations are conducted in Deir al-Balah.
He stressed that despite this, humanitarian aid operations are continuing, adding that the attacks “make it more difficult to put people who are already working under great pressure.”
He pointed out that during the past two weeks, United Nations workers in the field were able to purchase about 80,000 liters of fuel per day.
He explained that there is an improvement in this regard, "but the daily need is about 400,000 liters of fuel."
He continued: "The Israeli authorities still do not allow the provision of necessary fuel to humanitarian relief workers, and therefore food distribution is hampered."
As a result of the war and Israeli restrictions, the residents of Gaza, especially the Gaza and North governorates, are on the verge of famine, in light of a severe scarcity of food, water, medicine and fuel supplies, with the displacement of about two million Palestinians from the Strip, which has been besieged by Israel for 17 years.
