Water desalination plants in Gaza and the north stopped due to running out of fuel

It was announced today, Thursday, that the water desalination plants supplying the Gaza and northern governorates had stopped working due to the exhaustion of the fuel needed to operate them.

According to local sources, the stations stopped working completely, which doubled the suffering of citizens and the humanitarian situation in those areas, especially after the occupation deliberately destroyed water wells in northern Gaza.

The Israeli occupation army has completely prevented the entry of fuel into the northern Gaza Strip since the beginning of the war on the Gaza Strip on October 7th.

The Gaza Municipality said in a statement issued the day before yesterday, which the Palestinian Information Center reached: The continuing water crisis in large areas of the city resulted from damage to the “Mekorot” water line due to the continued incursion of the occupation forces into the east of the city, in addition to the stoppage of a large number of wells in the east and west. The city was unable to operate and municipal crews were unable to reach it and some of the main prisons.

She pointed out that the work is limited to some accessible wells only, and the Gaza Municipality confirms that its engineers and crews are trying hard to find some alternatives that alleviate the water crisis despite the limited capabilities and high risks.

The Gaza Municipality confirmed a few days ago that the amount of water currently available is limited and covers about 40% of the total area of the city, quantities that are not sufficient to meet the needs of citizens. Also, large parts of the northwest areas of the city are suffering from a real water crisis and do not receive water due to the occupation’s destruction of water sources. And the water networks that feed the area, including water wells and the desalination plant in the northwest of the city.
