The United States raises the alert level at its military bases in Europe
The US Department of Defense (the Pentagon) announced that it has raised the alert level of its military bases in European countries as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of its soldiers.
The ministry stated in a statement sent to Anadolu Agency, on Sunday, that the “American Command in Europe” constantly evaluates various factors that affect the security of the American military community outside the country.
It explained that it repeatedly takes additional measures to ensure the safety of military personnel, in light of the highest threat level in the last 10 years.
“We will not take specific actions for operational security reasons, but we will remain vigilant,” the Pentagon statement said.
The Ministry advised employees in European territories to remain “vigilant at all times, including reporting suspicious activities, following travel recommendations issued by the Ministry, and taking measures to reduce personal risks.”
It pointed out that the US European Command consults with host countries, allies, and partners, and constantly monitors the security environment to ensure that its employees are informed, and that they are safe with their families and loved ones.
According to information on social media, US military bases in Bulgaria, Italy, Romania and Germany have been placed on high alert known as “force protection status” (Charlie).
The authorities of European countries have previously warned of possible terrorist operations on the continent, during the current European Football Championship being held in Germany, and the Olympic Games in Paris in July.
