Haaretz: Netanyahu confronts the army
Haaretz newspaper criticized the recent attack on Israeli army leaders, especially by Sara, the wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and his son, Yair.
The newspaper considered, in an editorial, that the aim of these criticisms was to hold the military leaders alone responsible for the failure to repel the attack by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Israel on the seventh of last October, and to enable Netanyahu to evade responsibility and deny committing any sin.
According to Haaretz, Sarah's accusation of the army leaders of seeking a coup against her husband comes within the "statements, insinuations, insults, accusations, lies, and defamation" that are broadcast to the public as part of an incitement campaign against the army leaders, by the "poison machine" run by Netanyahu.
Sarah Netanyahu made these accusations against army commanders during her meeting last week with some families of Israeli prisoners in Gaza.
Sarah was not the only one from the Netanyahu family who accused the army commanders, as her son Yair (Netanyahu’s son) preceded her in doing so.
On June 17, Yair accused the army and the Shin Bet of treason in the face of Hamas attacks in the Gaza Strip on October 7.
Haaretz noted, in its editorial, that a response was issued on behalf of the Israeli Prime Minister’s wife, stating that “the scourge of the false, tendentious, and persistent leaks about Mrs. Netanyahu is a heinous injustice.”
Commenting on this statement, the newspaper described all of this denial as “useless” and a familiar method based on distortion, then deletion or denial.
She said that incitement against the Israeli army and its leaders is a “systematic” act, and that the pressure exerted by Netanyahu to weaken the army also aims to prevent it from increasing its forces by insisting on the continued application of a law that prevents the recruitment of extremist Haredi Jews. However, the Israeli Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday. By imposing conscription on them.
In addition to all of this, Haaretz adds, Netanyahu and his government are seizing every opportunity to incite war, not only in Gaza, but also against the Lebanese Hezbollah, while at the same time attacking the Palestinian Authority, weakening it, and provoking the United States, “Israel’s main ally.”
The newspaper concluded its editorial by emphasizing the necessity of holding general elections as soon as possible, “so that we can free ourselves from Netanyahu’s dangerous grip,” as she put it.
