Euro-Med Observatory accuses Israel of using a “weapon of starvation” against civilians in the Gaza Strip
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor accused the occupation of destroying agricultural lands and food baskets, and using this as a weapon of war and starvation against civilians in the Gaza Strip.
The Observatory explained that the occupation took more than 75% of the agricultural land area out of service in the Gaza Strip, either isolating it in preparation for its illegal annexation by force or destroying and bulldozing it.
It pointed out that the occupation aims to destroy the food basket of vegetables, fruits and meat, in addition to destroying all other components of local food production, stressing that this is happening in parallel with the occupation preventing the entry of food supplies and humanitarian aid within the framework of its dedication to famine in the Gaza Strip and the use of starvation as a weapon of war.
It added that the occupation army forces systematically destroyed agricultural lands, bird farms, and livestock in a clear and repeated pattern.
It stressed that the Israeli approach aims to starve the population in Gaza and deprive them of the food basket of vegetables, fruits, white and red meat, and make their survival dependent on the Israeli decision to bring in or prevent the entry of humanitarian aid.
4 children died from hunger
The Observatory stressed that within one week, Kamal Adwan Hospital, north of the Gaza Strip, announced the death of 4 children due to starvation and malnutrition, which brings the number of starvation victims to about 40 in the Gaza Strip.
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Observatory said that the occupation forces bulldozed and destroyed all agricultural lands along the security fence separating the eastern and northern Gaza Strip to a depth of approximately two kilometers, and the occupation expropriated approximately 96 square kilometers of Gaza Strip land, in an attempt to annex it by force, in violation of the rules of According to international law, about 3 square kilometers are added to it, as a result of the construction of a road and a buffer zone separating Gaza City from its center from the Netzarim axis.
The Observatory explained that the vast majority of these lands that fell within the scope of the buffer zone represented the largest portion of the agricultural land area in the Gaza Strip, and the occupation army worked to bulldoze and destroy all buildings and facilities.
It continued: “We documented that the occupation army deliberately killed many farmers while they were working or trying to reach their lands and farms, in addition to destroying thousands of farms, greenhouses, water wells and tanks, and stores of agricultural equipment.”
It added, "The continuing Israeli military attacks have dire effects on public health, the environment, agricultural lands, and the quality of water, soil, and air, while the effects of this interact cumulatively, and at a certain moment we could witness terrifying jumps in deaths."
The Observatory stressed that the right to access food, water and sanitation is an internationally recognized human right, a fundamental right to ensure the health of the population and preserve their dignity, and can only be achieved by stopping the crime of genocide and lifting the siege as collective punishment.
