Slovenia raises the Palestinian flag on the government building in the capital, Ljubljana
Today, Friday, Slovenia raised the flag of Palestine on the government building in the capital, Ljubljana, following its official recognition of the State of Palestine.
The Slovenian government placed the Palestinian flag next to its country's flag and the European Union flag in the government building.
Yesterday, Thursday, Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golub announced that his country recognized the State of Palestine, which is the fourth country to take a similar step within days.
Golub said in a statement after the government meeting that his country decided to recognize Palestine as an independent, sovereign state on the 1967 borders, in accordance with international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
He added: "This decision carries only one message, which is our request to stop hostilities in Gaza," indicating that the government will refer the decision to Parliament with a request for support from representatives, which is expected to hold a meeting next week to discuss recognition of the State of Palestine.
