UNRWA: Increasing numbers of people infected with infectious diseases in Gaza
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned that the number of people infected with infectious diseases is increasing in the Gaza Strip, according to reports from the World Health Organization.
UNRWA said in a post on the X platform: “World Health Organization reports indicate that the numbers of people infected with infectious diseases, including diarrhea and hepatitis A, are on the rise in Gaza.”
It added that she continues to provide health care, “but overcrowded shelters and limited sanitation due to forced displacement pose severe health risks” to the people of Gaza.
It stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire to address the worsening health crisis in the Strip.
Last April, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs indicated that the already serious sanitation crisis had worsened as summer approached, especially after the collapse of the wastewater treatment system.
Gaza residents complain of the proliferation of mosquitoes and rodents, the accumulation of waste and the leakage of sewage, in addition to the danger represented by decomposing bodies under the rubble without being able to be recovered in light of the Israeli war that has been going on for months.
Last March, United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that 80 percent of families in Gaza do not have access to clean water, which exacerbates the causes of disease.
Israel continues the war despite the huge number of civilian casualties, and despite the International Criminal Court’s intention to issue international arrest warrants against its Prime Minister and Minister of Defense. For their responsibility for “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity.”
Israel also ignores a resolution from the UN Security Council for an immediate ceasefire, and orders from the International Court of Justice to take immediate measures to prevent acts of “genocide” and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
