"Israel" is considering sanctions against the PA, and legal officials are warning it
Israeli public radio revealed, on Tuesday morning, that Israeli legal officials informed the ministerial committee charged with imposing sanctions on the Palestinian Authority that announcing the sanctions now would cause harm to Israeli efforts to confront the Criminal Court, following Attorney General Karim Khan’s statement yesterday.
Radio correspondent Amihai Stein said that the legal officials requested not to impose any sanctions on the Authority. He did not clarify the ministers’ position regarding this request, but he pointed out that Justice Minister Yariv Levin, who is a member of the committee, is the most prominent supporter of imposing sanctions on the Palestinian Authority.
The Ministerial Committee is scheduled to meet today to impose sanctions against the Palestinian Authority, claiming that it is taking unilateral steps in international institutions, especially after it obtained the General Assembly’s decision to recognize Palestine as a full-fledged state.
Among the steps that the committee is expected to decide: announcing the establishment of new settlements, deducting more Palestinian tax revenues, and withdrawing the privileges of senior officials and employees of the Palestinian Authority.
After the International Criminal Prosecutor's statement, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich quickly accused the Palestinian Authority of being behind the proceedings in court, adding that it was time to topple the Authority and stop the damage it was causing to Israel in the world.
It is noteworthy that the ministerial committee was formed after the Israeli government meeting last week, and this committee includes the ministers of foreign affairs, justice, and finance. Minister Orit Struck, who took the initiative to propose the committee in the government, said that they need a package of measures that “will cause severe harm to the Palestinian Authority and make it pay a heavy price.” “According to her saying.
