Burns is in Israel today seeking to reach an agreement

Reuters reported that CIA Director William Burns will travel to Israel on Wednesday to hold talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior officials.

On Sunday, news agencies reported that the CIA director went to Doha, where he met with the Qatari Prime Minister to discuss mediation in the war between Israel and Hamas.

Qatar announced on Tuesday that it had sent a Qatari delegation to Cairo to resume the ongoing negotiations between Israel and Hamas through joint Qatari-Egyptian-American mediation.

Cairo and Doha, along with Washington, have been sponsoring these negotiations for months as part of efforts aimed at stopping hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

On Monday, Hamas agreed to a proposal for a truce that would lead to a ceasefire and the exchange of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

These movements come hours after Israeli tanks took control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.

The latest round of talks between the mediators and the Palestinian movement concluded in Cairo on Sunday, while Israel and Hamas publicly exchanged blame for the failure to reach an agreement.

It is noteworthy that the official spokesman for the US State Department, Matthew Miller, said in his response to the Al-Quds Journal’s question that reaching a ceasefire agreement that leads to the release of the hostages and allows for an increase in humanitarian aid to Gaza remains a top priority for the United States.

Regarding Washington's position on the military operation carried out by Israel at the Rafah crossing, the spokesman said, "We have repeatedly expressed our views regarding the major operation in Rafah and we believe that the Rafah border crossing must be reopened to the movement of humanitarian aid."

The Egyptian Cairo News Channel reported on Tuesday, quoting a high-level source, that Cairo is hosting delegations from Qatar, the United States and Hamas with the aim of reaching a comprehensive truce in Gaza, amid the continuation of Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip.

The mediators wanted Israel to send a delegation to Cairo over the last weekend when Burns was in Egypt, and the mediators were preparing Hamas's official response to the latest proposal, a diplomat told The Times of Israel.
