Hamas: We informed Qatar and Egypt of our agreement to the ceasefire proposal

The Hamas movement said on Monday evening that the head of its political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, informed Qatar and Egypt of the movement’s approval of the two mediating countries’ proposal regarding a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

The movement said, in a statement published by the movement on its website, that “Haniyeh made a telephone call with the Qatari Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, and with the Egyptian Minister of Intelligence, Mr. Abbas Kamel, and informed them of the Hamas movement’s approval of their proposal regarding the ceasefire agreement.”

Taher Al-Nono, media advisor to the head of the Hamas movement, said that the proposal approved by the movement includes a ceasefire, the liberation of prisoners, the return of the displaced, and the start of reconstruction.

Taher Al-Nono stated, in an interview with Al-Arabi TV, that the movement is awaiting what the mediators will do regarding the response provided by the movement’s leadership, stressing that the occupation leadership fears a ceasefire because the consequences resulting from it are not in its favor.

In an initial comment, Israeli Channel 13 published that the formula approved by Hamas “is a watered down and modified version of the Egyptian proposal, and it is not acceptable to Israel.” While Channel 12 said, Israel has not yet been officially informed of Hamas’s approval of the proposal.
