Palestinian Eastern Christians celebrate Easter tomorrow
Eastern Christian denominations will celebrate Easter tomorrow, Sunday, after Good Friday and Holy Saturday.
Attention is drawn to the city of Jerusalem, specifically to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, where the holy light is expected to emerge from the opening of the tomb of Jesus Christ.
According to Al-Quds.com's correspondent, since the early morning hours, the Israeli police have deployed hundreds of their members in the Old City and closed its doors to Christians.
He said: "The Greek Orthodox Patriarch, along with the Armenian Archbishop, will carry out a large march, with many clerics from all over the world chanting hymns and anthems."
He continued: "They will circumambulate three times around the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, then the Patriarch of Jerusalem or the Orthodox Archbishop will come and read a specific prayer and then begin the last rituals before the holy light shines at two o'clock in the afternoon."
The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in the city of Jerusalem issued a circular restricting this year’s celebrations and limiting them to prayers and religious rituals. This is due to the current difficult circumstances taking place in the Holy Land.
It explained that in light of the current circumstances that the Holy Land is witnessing as a result of the ongoing war on Gaza, it announces the restriction of celebrations of Holy Saturday for this year and confining them to the “status quo” arrangements that have been in place for many years in Jerusalem. As for the rest of the regions, light will be delivered. The sacred is at the doors of churches without ceremonial rituals outside of religious rituals.
