Gaza Hamas Leader demands guarantees to end the war in negotiations on the exchange of detainees
A news report said that Yahya Sinwar, the leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) inside the Gaza Strip, still has three demands in the current negotiations regarding the exchange of detainees.
A source close to the Hamas leader told Israeli TV Channel 12 on Thursday evening that he is still demanding guarantees to end the war. This is something that Israel has rejected so far.
Sinwar reportedly wants a written commitment for an “unconditional end to the fighting.”
According to the network, Sinwar also demands that Israel not prevent Palestinians who were released in exchange for the release of Israeli detainees from returning to the West Bank.
The latest draft of the agreement indicates that Israel wants to send those who were serving life sentences to the Gaza Strip or outside Palestine.
In addition, the Hamas leader inside the Gaza Strip wants details about what materials Israel will not allow into the coastal enclave for reconstruction.
According to the report, there is an assumption in Israel that Hamas will not give a clearly negative response to the proposal due to international pressure. Egyptian mediators, with the help of the United States, are currently trying to reach an agreement.
Hamas had previously announced that it would once again send a delegation to Cairo, in order to complete the current indirect negotiations with Israel, regarding reaching an agreement to release detainees and ceasefire.
