Gaza: The death of the infant “Sabreen Al-Ruh” after being rescued from her mother’s womb while she was dying

The infant, Sabreen Al-Ruh, Shukri Al-Sheikh, who was saved by a Caesarean section minutes before her mother, who was injured in an Israeli bombing, died in a hospital in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, according to what her uncle said on Friday.

Rami Al-Sheikh, Sabreen’s uncle, said, “I received a call from the administration of the Emirati Hospital in Rafah today, Friday, telling me that her condition had worsened and they were unable to save her until she died to join her family.”

He added, “I went and performed all the procedures in the hospital, and brought the child’s body home, opened the grave of her father, Shukri, and buried her in her father’s grave, in a cemetery in Rafah.”

The Emirati Hospital in Rafah, where the baby was located, announced on Thursday, “The martyrdom of the child, Sabreen Al-Ruh, who was rescued from the womb of her mother, Sabreen, before she was martyred as a result of the bombing of her home east of Rafah several days ago. Thus, a family will be erased from the civil registry.”

On April 20, the Palestinian Civil Defense transferred Sabreen Muhammad Al-Sakani, the baby’s mother, to the Kuwait Specialized Hospital in the city of Rafah. Her condition was hopeless, after an Israeli bombing targeted a house east of Rafah. The Civil Defense also transferred her husband, Shukri Ahmed Al-Sheikh, and their daughter, Malak Shukri, to the hospital, and they died as a result of their injuries.

The raid resulted in the death of at least 19 people, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.

The director of Kuwait Specialized Hospital, surgeon Suhaib Al-Hams, said that day, “Sabreen was seriously injured, and it turned out that she was pregnant, and we decided to perform an immediate caesarean section without anesthesia to extract the fetus because there was no anesthesiologist at that time.”

He added, “Sabreen Al-Sakani was in the last ten minutes of her life, breathing with difficulty and fighting death.” She died ten minutes after saving the fetus,” he said, describing the birth of Sabreen Al-Sakani’s baby as a “miracle.”

According to the United Nations, about 1.5 million people are gathered in Rafah, including more than a million displaced due to more than six months of bombing and fighting in the Gaza Strip (2.4 million people).
