Families of Israeli prisoners protest in Tel Aviv to demand the release of their children

Today, Tuesday, the families of Israeli prisoners detained in the Gaza Strip organized a protest in Tel Aviv to demand the government to release their sons on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the war on Gaza.

The Israeli newspaper "The Times of Israel" published a picture of the families of the prisoners and their supporters, in "Habima" Square in Tel Aviv, lying on the ground, with their hands painted red and directed towards the sky, saying, "The families are calling on the government to take action to release them."

The families and opponents inside Israel accuse Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of obstructing reaching an agreement with Hamas that would lead to the release of prisoners for political purposes, but Netanyahu accused the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) of rejecting all proposals related to the release of detainees.

On the other hand, Hamas accuses Netanyahu of intransigence and unwillingness to conclude an agreement, and insists on ending the war on Gaza, the withdrawal of the Israeli army, the freedom for the displaced to return to their areas, and the entry of sufficient aid into the Strip to agree to any agreement.

With the mediation of Qatar, Egypt and the United States, the Palestinian factions in Gaza and Israel have been conducting faltering indirect negotiations for months to reach an agreement to exchange prisoners and cease fire in the devastating war that broke out on October 7, 2023.

Tel Aviv holds at least 9,500 Palestinians in its prisons, and estimates that there are about 134 Israeli prisoners in Gaza, while Hamas announced that 70 of them were killed in random Israeli raids.

This comes as the devastating war on Gaza continues for the 200th day, leaving more than 112,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of children and the elderly, according to Palestinian and UN data.

Israel insists on continuing this war despite its appearance before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing genocide.
