The Security Council holds a meeting today on the Palestinian issue
Today, Friday, the United Nations Security Council will hold a meeting during which it will discuss the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue.
On March 25, the Security Council adopted Resolution No. 2728, which demands an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during the holy month of Ramadan, leading to a “permanent and sustainable ceasefire.”
The draft resolution was presented by the ten non-permanent members of the Security Council, including Algeria, the only Arab member of the Council. The draft resolution received 14 votes in favor, while the United States of America abstained from voting.
The vote was followed by applause from members of the Council, which has been unable several times over the past months to adopt a resolution on a ceasefire in Gaza.
The Council is expected to vote during its meetings this April on a draft French resolution on Gaza and Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations.
