Sources: The Cairo meeting did not result in anything new
Sources familiar with the negotiations said that the Cairo meeting between the mediators and the Israeli delegation did not result in anything new in the process of reaching a ceasefire.
The sources indicated that the Israeli delegation once again put forward a proposal for the gradual return of a specific number of displaced persons from the south of the Gaza Strip to its north, as the proposal includes the return of no more than 60,000 displaced persons at a rate of 2,000 displaced persons per day two weeks after the start of the agreement.
It added that Israel insists that the displaced do not return to their homes and areas, but rather to tents that are built to shelter them.
A leader in the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) told Al Jazeera that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is trying to buy time and absorb the anger of the families of the prisoners, but he is creating obstacles to reaching an agreement.
He added that the Israeli delegation does not have the authority to reach an agreement, stressing the movement’s position on the necessity of stopping the aggression, withdrawing the occupation forces, returning the displaced, and intensifying relief and reconstruction.
