UNRWA: Israel prevents the food convoy from reaching northern Gaza
Philippe Lazzarini, Director of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), announced on Saturday that “Israel has prevented a food aid convoy from arriving in the northern Gaza Strip, for the second time in a week.”
Lazzarini warned, in a post on his account on the “X” platform, that the residents of northern Gaza are living on the “brink of man-made famine,” which can be avoided.
The UN official pointed out that “the last time UNRWA teams were able to send food aid to northern Gaza was about two months ago.”
He highlighted that “Israel is preventing, for the second time in a week, the arrival of a food aid convoy to northern Gaza.”
He stressed the need for the Israeli authorities to allow food aid to be delivered on a large scale to the north, including through UNRWA, the largest humanitarian organization in Gaza.
“In the meantime, children will continue to die of malnutrition and dehydration before our eyes,” Lazzarini concluded, expressing his fears that “the unbearable situation will turn into a new normal.”
