Australia is "horrified" by the "Rashid Street" massacre and calls for an immediate ceasefire
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said that her country is “terrified by the catastrophe that occurred in Gaza, and the humanitarian crisis that led to it,” in response to the massacre committed by the Israeli forces, yesterday, Thursday, on “Al-Rashid Street” in Gaza City, against citizens who were waiting for aid trucks to arrive, which led to the death and injury of hundreds.
“These events confirm Australia’s months-long call for an immediate ceasefire on humanitarian grounds,” Wong added in a statement.
It continued: “Civilians must be protected. Humanitarian aid must reach the civilians who need it most.”
It noted that Australia is providing 46.5 million Australian dollars (30 million US dollars) in humanitarian aid, including food, water, medicine, and shelter, and additional urgent support will be announced in the coming days.
It noted that she "issued direct instructions to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to express her country's views to the Israeli ambassador to Australia."
The Al-Rashid Street massacre resulted in the death of more than 112 citizens and the wounding of others.
