The death of two infants.. Gaza Health: Drought and malnutrition will kill thousands of children and pregnant women in the Gaza Strip

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced, on Tuesday, the death of two infants as a result of dehydration and malnutrition at Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Dr. Ashraf Al-Qudra, drought and malnutrition will kill thousands of children and pregnant women in the Gaza Strip.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Health in Gaza called on international institutions to conduct a comprehensive medical survey in shelters to monitor and treat those suffering from dehydration and malnutrition and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe.

Dr. Ashraf Al-Qudra said: “United Nations institutions have moral and functional responsibilities to protect children and women and provide all means of survival from the famine that strikes the Gaza Strip.”

He called on the international community to stop the crimes of genocide committed by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip through targeting, starvation and epidemics.

Earlier, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced, on Tuesday, “serious” cases of drought and malnutrition for a number of infants in the northern Strip.

The ministry said in a statement, "A number of serious cases of infants arrived at Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, due to dehydration and malnutrition."

On February 19, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) warned that the sharp rise in malnutrition among children and pregnant and lactating women in the Gaza Strip poses a "serious threat" to their health, especially with the continuing devastating war.

Ted Chaiban, deputy executive director of UNICEF, said Gaza is about to witness an “explosion in child deaths,” which would “double the already unbearable level of child mortality.”

He recalled that UNICEF had warned that the sector was “on the brink of a nutrition crisis.”

On November 17, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced that the residents of the northern Gaza Strip are “on the brink of famine, and have no place to go” in light of the war that has been going on for months.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, leaving tens of thousands of victims, most of them children and women, according to Palestinian and UN data, which led to Israel appearing before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing “genocide.”
