American officials: The Biden administration does not plan to punish “Israel” if it invades Rafah
The administration of US President Joe Biden does not plan any punitive steps towards Israel and the government of Benjamin Netanyahu, if it decides to move forward with its plans to launch a large-scale military aggression in the Rafah area, south of the Gaza Strip, without “ensuring the safety of Palestinian civilians,” according to officials in the United States.
Three American officials said on Wednesday that “there are no reprimand plans in preparation, which means that Israeli forces could enter the city and harm civilians without facing American consequences.”
Public comments from senior Biden administration officials made it clear that “there will be no change in approach,” although the United States said it wanted to see a credible plan to protect civilians before launching a ground invasion of the city, which has become very densely populated.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden revealed that an agreement to release prisoners detained in Gaza with a cessation of “at least six weeks” of fighting between Israel and Hamas is currently being discussed.
Biden's statements came during a meeting with Jordanian King Abdullah at the White House, where discussions covered the Israeli invasion of southern Gaza and the threat of a humanitarian catastrophe among Palestinian civilians.
The US President claimed that he was keen on "the necessity of protecting Palestinian civilians in Rafah in the event that Israel launches a ground invasion into the city located in the southern Gaza Strip."
According to American media, in his recent talks with his election campaign, Biden expressed his frustration with the policies of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying that he is "trying to persuade Israel to agree to a ceasefire, but Netanyahu is the obstacle."
According to the White House, Biden told Netanyahu in a phone call that he believes that “the military operation in Rafah should not continue without a reliable and implementable plan to protect the Palestinians who were displaced there.”
American journalists and observers of American affairs confirm that the pressure on the Biden administration due to its open support for the war on Gaza is a key factor in the American discourse becoming more stringent with the Netanyahu government in recent weeks, as several fears that his election campaign would be affected by the results of the genocide in Gaza began to intensify. .
