Analysts: The Rafah operation has not yet begun, and Washington fears Israel's drowning in Gaza
Experts and analysts say that the expected Israeli operation in the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, has not yet begun, and will require that the United States avoid massacres that may exceed all that history has witnessed, stressing that Washington is still concerned about the next day of the war and fears that Israel will drown in Gaza. .
During his participation in the program “Gaza... What Next?”, the expert and political analyst Muhammad Al-Akhras said that the United States is trying to build on what Israel has achieved on the ground, because it has become confident that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is working from a personal standpoint.
According to Al-Akhras, the American position is linked to the post-war period, and “there are major differences between Washington and Tel Aviv, because the decision to enter Gaza is a political matter, not a military one, because it is linked to control of the crossings and the Philadelphia axis.”
Disagreement over the mechanism of war
Therefore, Washington does not differ with Tel Aviv on the major goals of the war, but rather on how to invest in achievements on the ground, according to Al-Akhras, who believes that America realizes the danger of leading a war without a plan, and knows very well the possibility that it could turn into a strategic defeat, as US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin warned in the first Operations, and “therefore it is trying to exert force with all its might to guide Israel’s behavior and prevent its sinking in Gaza.”
Also, as Al-Akhras says, America, which fought major wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, “knows that the first months are the easiest in the war and that continuing means disaster for Israel and the region, which is on a hot plate, and therefore it is monitoring the matter with a geopolitical perspective and knows that Netanyahu is working for himself.”
In turn, expert on Israeli affairs, Ihab Jabarin, pointed out that there is a state of rejection and mistrust on the part of Israeli politicians regarding the results of the military operation in Rafah, but he explained that civilians and military personnel are trying at the same time to build a collective contract with the army.
Jabareen added that this matter may push towards the operation to restore confidence, especially since they called it Golden Hands instead of Iron Swords to emphasize its specificity.
Military expert Major General Fayez Al-Duwairi believes that the Rafah operation has not yet begun, and that the violent bombing that killed 70 people at dawn on Monday does not mean its beginning, noting that the operation “will be complex and require the evacuation of more than a million displaced people before it begins.”
Al-Duwairi said that starting the operation before the evacuation of the displaced means that America is required to overlook massacres that will exceed those recorded in history, because it is impossible to carry out a military operation in the city of Rafah in its current state without committing massacres that are shameful to history, as he put it.
