London considers Netanyahu’s statements on Palestinian sovereignty “disappointing”

British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps said on Sunday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statements rejecting any "Palestinian sovereignty" in the post-Gaza war period were "disappointing."

Shapps told Sky News, “It is disappointing to hear such statements from the Israeli Prime Minister,” stressing that for Britain, “there is no choice but a two-state solution to settle the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”

Yesterday, Saturday, Netanyahu expressed his rejection of US President Joe Biden’s statements about establishing a Palestinian state after the end of the war in the Gaza Strip.

Biden said last Friday that he spoke to Netanyahu about possible solutions to establish an independent Palestinian state, indicating that one of the paths may include forming a civilian government.

Earlier, NBC reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken's proposal for normalization between Israel and Saudi Arabia in exchange for the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper revealed that the United States warned the Israeli Prime Minister that Israel's long-term security will only be guaranteed through the establishment of a Palestinian state.

The newspaper said, quoting Reuters, that US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that “there is no way” to solve Israel’s security problems in the long term, as well as to organize the Gaza reconstruction process at the end of the war, without establishing a Palestinian state.
