Regarding Case 192 – Prosecution brought by South Africa against the State of Israel on December 29, 2023.
We, Israeli citizens, with an obligation to prevent genocide, write to you to express our support for South Africa's representations before the ICJ declaring that Israel's conduct in Gaza violates its responsibilities under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. The elements that emerge from South Africa's request are horrific and credible. Israel is taking systematic measures to annihilate the population of Gaza, to starve, mistreat and displace them. It implements a policy that deliberately inflicts living conditions calculated to bring about his physical destruction as a group. It systematically kills large sections of the population, prominent academics, writers, doctors, medical personnel, journalists and ordinary citizens.
We associate ourselves with the dual concerns expressed in the proceedings, namely that Israel is violating its obligations by committing genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza and by failing to prevent the genocide, including by failing to hold senior Israeli officials and others responsible for their direct and public incitement to genocide. We also join the applicants who are calling for a series of “provisional measures” necessary to protect against future serious and irreparable harm under the Geneva Convention, which Israel continues to violate with impunity. Among others, we join the petitioners' urgent call to order Israel "to cease inflicting living conditions calculated to bring about their physical destruction as a group, and to prevent and punish direct incitement and public policy to the genocide, and to repeal related policy and practices, including with regard to the restriction of aid and the issuance of evacuation directives.”
