Gaza Health: War casualties rose to 23,469 dead and 59,604 injured

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on Thursday that the death toll from the Israeli war on the Strip since October 7 had risen to 23,469  and 59,604 injured.

This came in a statement issued by the Ministry’s spokesman, Ashraf Al-Qudra, on the 97th day of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, and published on the Ministry’s Telegram platform.

The statement said that the ministry monitored "the Israeli occupation committing 10 massacres against families in the Gaza Strip during the past 24 hours."

He pointed out that 112 killed and 194 injuries arrived at hospitals as a result of these “massacres.”

He explained, "There are still a number of victims under the rubble and on the roads, and ambulance and civil defense crews cannot reach them."

In the same context, the statement indicated that there were 6,200 cases of injuries, “in urgent need of treatment abroad to save their lives.”

He added: "10,000 cancer patients also face the risk of death, as a result of the Turkish Friendship Hospital being out of service and the mechanism for sending patients out for treatment abroad weakening."

While the Israeli army has been waging a devastating war against the Gaza Strip for more than 3 months, resulting in an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, on Thursday, the International Court of Justice began hearings related to the lawsuit filed by South Africa against Israel, accusing it of committing “genocide crimes” in Gaza, which is what Tel Aviv denies.

Until the case is decided, South Africa asked the court, the main judicial body of the United Nations, to issue an urgent “interim order” for Israel to “immediately suspend its military operations” in Gaza.

Tomorrow, Friday, the court will hold the second and final hearing in which Israel’s legal team will present its defenses in the accusations filed against Tel Aviv.

The rulings of the Court of Justice are legally binding, but it does not have the authority to enforce their application, and in 2022, Moscow ignored a court order to stop Russian military operations in its neighbor, Ukraine.
