Israel releases 39 of the Palestinian detained children
Tonight, the Israeli occupation released 39 children detained at the “Ofer” military prison, which is located on citizens’ lands in the town of Beitunia, west of Ramallah, and from the “Al-Maskobiyya” detention center in occupied Jerusalem, as part of the third batch of the “exchange deal.”
A bus and vehicles belonging to the International Committee of the Red Cross transported a number of released detainees from the "Ofer" military prison to Martyr Yasser Arafat Square in the center of Ramallah, while the 21 Jerusalemite detainees were released from the "Al-Maskobiyah" detention center, where they were held.
Hundreds of citizens received the released detainees, chanting slogans congratulating them on their release, and others calling for the release of all detainees in Israeli occupation prisons.
Earlier on Sunday evening, the occupation forces suppressed families and journalists present in the vicinity of the Ofer military prison, west of Ramallah, while they were waiting for the child detainees scheduled to be released.
Eyewitnesses said that the occupation forces fired live and rubber-coated metal bullets, and poisonous tear gas canisters, wounding a number of citizens, including a journalist.
He added that the occupation forces attacked the journalists, forced them to move away from the place, fired gas and sound bombs at them, and seized the equipment of a number of them.
Since the early evening hours, hundreds of citizens and families of detainees flocked in succession to the entrance to the Ofer military prison and downtown Ramallah, where their children were received.
In Jerusalem, the occupation forces prevented the families of detainees from celebrating, or receiving well-wishers at home, as part of the punishment policy used by the occupation authorities against Jerusalemites.
