Politico: There is concern in Washington that the truce will expose what Israel did to Gaza and turn American public opinion against it.

Politico reported that there is concern within the administration of US President Joe Biden that the ceasefire in Gaza will lead to journalists entering the Strip, which may turn public opinion against Israel.

The website quoted some Biden administration officials as saying that the hostage exchange agreement is the clearest indication so far that the administration's strategy toward the war between Israel and Hamas is successful.

Three US administration officials said, "There is no clear period of victory that can be achieved, as about 200 hostages will remain in the grip of Hamas. It would be inappropriate to celebrate any victory after Hamas killed 1,200 people on October 7."

A senior administration official pointed out that “there is no feeling that the truce will turn into a longer ceasefire,” revealing that “there is some concern in the administration about the unintended consequences of the truce that it will allow journalists broader access to Gaza and the opportunity for them to shed more light on destruction there and turning public opinion against Israel.”

Earlier today, Wednesday, Qatar announced the success of the joint Qatari mediation efforts with Egypt and the United States between Israel and Hamas, by reaching a humanitarian truce agreement, the start time of which will be announced within 24 hours.

For its part, the Israeli government announced the approval of a temporary ceasefire in the Gaza Strip after two meetings of the War Council and the expanded government. The agreement includes a limited exchange of prisoners with Hamas.

In turn, the Hamas movement confirmed that the terms of this agreement were formulated in accordance with the vision of the resistance and its determinants, stressing that “its hands will remain on the trigger to defend our people and defeat the aggression.”

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli President Isaac Herzog welcomed the agreement.
