Hamas official: There is no agreement on the hostage issue yet
An official in the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) said today (Wednesday) that there is no agreement on the hostage issue yet because Israel is still evading what hinders reaching any agreement.
Taher Al-Nono, media advisor to the head of Hamas’s political bureau, said in a telephone call with Xinhua News Agency that no agreement had been reached on the hostage issue due to continued Israeli evasion.
Al-Nono added, "There is no agreement yet because Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is evasive and deliberately procrastinates and obstructs the efforts of the mediators to reach an agreement regarding the detainees."
Hamas offered to release 50 to 70 civilian and dual-national hostages in the Gaza Strip in exchange for announcing a ceasefire agreement under negotiations led by Qatar and Egypt, according to media reports.
Israel says that during its unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, Hamas detained 240 people, including foreigners and civilians.
