United Nations: The humanitarian crisis is worsening in the Gaza Strip at various levels
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said on Tuesday that another 200,000 people have fled northern Gaza since November 5.
This comes in conjunction with the ongoing fighting between Israeli ground forces and the Palestinian resistance around hospitals where patients, premature infants, and paramedics were trapped, with electricity cut off and supplies dwindling.
The office, known as OCHA, said that only one hospital in northern Gaza is now able to receive patients and injured people.
All other hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip are no longer able to function, and only refugees fleeing the war are inside them, including Al-Shifa Hospital, the largest medical complex in Gaza, which is besieged by Israeli forces, and 36 premature babies there face the risk of death due to the power outage in the incubators. .
Israel urged the civilian population to evacuate Gaza City and its surrounding areas in the north, but the south of the Strip is not safer, as Israel launches frequent air strikes, bombing what it claims are militant sites, but killing women and children in return.
UN-run shelters in the south are severely overcrowded, with an average of one toilet for every 160 people.
In total, some 1.5 million Palestinians, more than two-thirds of Gaza's population, have fled their homes.
Residents stand in line for hours to get bread and water.
Garbage is piling up, sewage is flooding the streets, and taps have dried up as water pumps and treatment plants have run out of fuel.
Israel has prevented the entry of fuel into Gaza since the beginning of the aggression, and claims that Hamas will use it for military purposes.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which is struggling to provide basic services to more than 600,000 people who have taken refuge in schools and other facilities in the south, said that its fuel may run out by Wednesday, which may force it to stop... Most aid operations.
The agency added that it is unable to continue bringing limited supplies of food and medicine through the Rafah crossing, which is Gaza's only link to the outside world.
Israel accuses Hamas of using hospitals as cover for its fighters, and claimed that the movement established its main command center inside and below Al-Shifa Hospital, without providing any visual evidence of this.
Hamas and the hospital administration completely deny the Israeli accusations.
Clashes broke out and explosions were heard on Monday around the Shifa complex, which is surrounded by Israeli forces.
Tens of thousands have fled over the past few days and headed to the southern Gaza Strip, including large numbers of displaced people who took refuge in hospitals.
For weeks, Al-Shifa Hospital staff, which ran out of supplies, performed surgeries on war-wounded people, including children, without anesthesia and using vinegar as a disinfectant.
After the mass exodus that occurred over the weekend, there are still about 650 patients and 500 employees in the hospital, which is no longer able to work, in addition to 10,000 displaced people who are taking shelter in the hospital and have little food and water.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza said that 32 patients, including three children, have died since its emergency generator ran out of fuel on Saturday, noting that 36 children, in addition to other patients, are at risk of death because the intensive care equipment has stopped working.
International law grants hospitals special protection during war.
On Monday, the International Committee of the Red Cross attempted to evacuate about 6,000 patients, staff and displaced persons from Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza City. But the Red Cross said that its convoy was forced to return due to the bombing.
The United States is pushing for a temporary pause to allow much-needed aid to be distributed more widely. Israel has only agreed to daily periods during which civilians can flee northern Gaza on foot along two main roads.
The number of dead of the Israeli aggression on Gaza reached 11,240 Palestinians, including 4,630 children and 3,130 women, in addition to 29,000 wounded.
