A mother from the town of Qaryut, south of Nablus, lost her fetus after Israeli occupation forces obstructed the arrival of an ambulance transporting her through the Huwara military checkpoint, south of the city.
Bashar Al-Qaryouti, an ambulance officer from Qaryut, told Wafa agency that the occupation forces obstructed the work of medical teams and refused to allow the ambulance to pass through the checkpoint after closing its gates. They detained the team and subjected a pregnant woman in her sixth month, who was suffering from severe bleeding, to inspection despite her critical health condition.
He added that the occupation soldiers forced the team to turn off the ambulance engine, which led to the shutdown of the supporting medical devices inside. He noted that after a detention that lasted more than half an hour, the vehicle was allowed to pass.
Al-Qaryouti explained that the woman arrived at the hospital, but she lost her fetus, while the medical team was able to save her life.
This incident comes about a week after the death of Sajoud Faqha (30 years old), from the town of Sinjil, north of Ramallah, a mother of two children, due to a heart attack, after occupation forces obstructed the arrival of an ambulance to the town following the closure of one of the iron gates at its entrance.
Also, yesterday, two women were forced to give birth inside vehicles after being unable to reach hospitals, as a result of the Israeli occupation forces closing the checkpoints surrounding the city of Nablus.
Occupation forces continue to obstruct the work of ambulance crews by tightening their procedures at military checkpoints, which hinders the movement of ambulances and delays their arrival to patients and injured individuals.
