By signing the presidential decree to hold legislative elections on November 28th and presidential elections in the first quarter of next year, President Mahmoud Abbas silences all speakers; the homeland will transform after this entitlement into an open arena for dialogues, mobilization, and formulating visions, in preparation for forming electoral lists according to the new system, which opens doors for the widest societal participation, especially for young people and women, for whom the new law guarantees a greater presence and deserved participation in decision-making, a presence that matches their sacrifices and their share of enduring pain and confronting hardships.
Today's elections represent a real window of hope that can stir stagnant waters, open wide political horizons, and offer a range of alternative options after circles have narrowed and crises have intensified; perhaps the ballot boxes will open the gate to the hoped-for relief.
From now until the appointed time, life will flow into hardened arteries, and complacent factions will face the moment of truth, for their "wooden" language will not help them gain the trust of voters after their presence has eroded, their image has faded, and their inability to respond to existential challenges, of which the citizen was the fuel, has been exposed, while these factions still live in a state of denial, refusing to acknowledge their mistakes and transgressions, and hesitating to conduct the necessary reviews of their policies, and to acknowledge their share of responsibility for the tragic conditions that have resulted in a dismal scene and a bad outcome.
The time of empty rhetoric and vague slogans has passed, and the moment of popular accountability has arrived, for today there is no protection for factions except what they have offered in terms of realistic programs that address people's concerns, heal their wounds, and alleviate their pains.
With the elections, we set a date for renewing blood, streamlining performance, and correcting paths towards a free and dignified homeland, adhering to the values of truth, justice, equality, and freedom… We know that there are challenges and attempts by the occupation to block the path towards this national entitlement, but the will to live will respond to fate, for there is no weapon stronger or sharper than the weapon of life, so march to the elections.
