Washington announces end of wave of strikes against Iran, Trump hints at broader escalation

The US Central Command announced the conclusion of a series of military operations it described as "additional defensive strikes" against sites in Iran. Military sources explained that this round primarily focused on destroying Iranian radar systems, as part of the response to ongoing threats faced by US forces in the region.

For his part, US President Donald Trump hinted at expanding the scope of military operations, threatening to launch more powerful strikes if Tehran does not change its behavior. These threats came after an attack targeting a US Army Apache helicopter, which the White House considered an unacceptable escalation, especially with the death toll of US soldiers in the Gulf region reaching 13.

On the political front, Trump accused the Iranian leadership of deliberately stalling nuclear program negotiations, reiterating his criticism of the 2015 agreement, which he considered a loophole that allowed Tehran to get closer to acquiring a nuclear weapon. In contrast, Tehran insists on linking any progress in the negotiation process to a ceasefire in Lebanon, a condition that Washington has so far rejected, amidst concerns within the US administration about a repeat of historical crises that could affect internal political stability.

Iranian leadership is stalling nuclear negotiations, and we will respond forcefully if our forces continue to be targeted.
