The White House: Hezbollah should not exploit the conflict between Israel and Hamas
The United States warned Hezbollah against “exploiting” the war between Israel and Hamas, after the party’s Secretary-General announced that the possibilities of expanding this war against Israel are “open.”
A spokesman for the National Security Council said: “We and our partners have been clear: Hezbollah and other parties, whether they are states or not, should not try to exploit the existing conflict.”
Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah on Friday threatened the United States, which he held “full responsibility” for the war in Gaza, by targeting its fleets in the Mediterranean, stressing that the possibilities of expanding the war regionally against Israel are “open.”
Commenting on this position, the spokesman said: “We will not enter into a war of words.”
He stressed that “the United States does not seek to escalate or expand the scope of the ongoing conflict” between Israel and the Hamas movement.
The National Security Council spokesman continued: “The matter may turn into a war between Israel and Lebanon that is bloodier than the 2006 war. The United States does not want to see this conflict expand into Lebanon. The potential destruction that will befall Lebanon and its people is unimaginable and avoidable.”
