Hamas claims responsibility for Hebron shooting
Hamas claimed responsibility for the shooting attack near Hebron that left an Israeli settler dead and another seriously wounded on Monday.
An official source from the Islamist group told Al Jazeera that the perpetrator was a member of the party.
On Tuesday morning, the Israeli army claimed that it had arrested the two Palestinians who carried out the shooting, and confiscated the weapons that were used. According to Israel's public broadcaster Kan, the two men were identified as Saqr Al-Shantir and Muhammad Al-Shantir.
Also on Tuesday, the political chief of Hamas Ismail Hainyeh responded to the attack by saying that there is never be a solution to the conflict with Israel as long as its occupation of West Bank and Judaization of Jerusalem continues.
He added that the various tactics deployed by the occupier "will be met by our people with resistance and steadfastness."
In the manhunt for the two men, Israeli occupation forces set up roadblocks and carried out mass arrests in the greater Hebron area. At least 13 Palestinians were arrested in the operation, including ex-prisoners.
