Israel isolated prisoner accused of aiding Palestinian jailbreak for two years

Palestinian prisoner Iyad Jaradat has faced very stringent detention conditions for the last two years, according to the Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, after he was accused of assisting the escape of six Palestinian prisoners from Gilboa.

The 38-year-old from Jenin has been in isolation for two years by the Israeli prison authorities, the commission's lawyer Moataz Shuqairat said.

Jaradat was sentenced four years in prison and a fine of 2,000 shekels along with four other prisoners.

On top of this, Jaradat has been banned for 11 months from using the canteen, 8 months from using electrical appliances, and was investigated for a month in the Jalameh Investigation Center. They also used excessive force when storming his cell.

His weight has fallen from 89 kilograms to 77 kilograms in the last six months.

Jaradat was originally handed down a life sentence of 25 years in 2002 over his role in events that took place in Jenin refugee camp.
