Quiet in Ein al-Hilweh camp amid efforts to uphold cease-fire
A fragile quiet has been secured in the Palestinian refugee camp of Ein-Hilweh after a ceasefire agreement was reached on Tuesday night. Eleven Palestinians were killed in the interfactional fighting in the Lebanese camp in the last three days.
The Palestinian Joint Action Committee held an emergency meeting on Tuesday night with the Palestinian ambassador to Lebanon, Ashraf Dabour, to discuss the events at the camp.
Eleven Palestinians were killed, including senior Fatah commander in Sidon Major General Abu Ashraf al-Armoushi, and several others were injured. On top of this, many Palestinian families were displaced and the fighting caused significant damage to property and infrastructure.
Among the remit of the Palestinian Joint Action Committee is to encourage gunmen to withdraw from the streets in order to ensure safe passage for families wishing to return, and to investigate the cause of the confrontations and to bring them to the Lebanese judicial and security authorities.
