Palestinian factions start to arrive in Cairo ahead of unity meeting

Cairo — A delegation from the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine arrived in the Egyptian capital on Thursday evening ahead of the upcoming meeting between all Palestinian factions next week.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had called the meeting to try and secure "national unity" after Israel's invasion of Jenin refugee camp at the start of July.

Despite tensions over the release of political prisoners arrested by the Palestinian Authority, Abbas and the head of Hamas' political bureau Ismail Haniyeh met in Ankara.

Over a dozen factions are set to participate in the meeting in Cairo, including Fatah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the PFLP.

The delegation from the Palestinian Marxist–Leninist group DFLP includes Magda Al-Masry and Saleh Nasser, and a member of their central committee, Anas Sheikh Qassem.
