Renewed demonstrations against the Netanyahu government for the 28th week in a row
Today, Saturday evening, protest demonstrations against the government of Benjamin Netanyahu and its plan to weaken the judiciary were renewed for the twenty-eighth week in a row.
The demonstrations coincided with Netanyahu's arrival at the emergency department at Sheba-Tel Hashomer Hospital in Ramat Gan, after he lost consciousness and suffered chest pain while he was at his home in Caesarea, where he underwent medical examinations that proved he was dehydrated, and it was decided to keep him under medical observation tonight in the pathology department. The heart, while announcing the postponement of the weekly government session scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, to Monday.
Tens of thousands of Israelis demonstrated in Tel Aviv, Haifa, Hadera, Beersheba, Bat Yam, Netanya, Nahariya, Rehovot, Afula and dozens of other locations. The Israeli police preempted the demonstrations by closing several streets in Tel Aviv and Haifa.
Demonstrations erupted from Ramat Gan, Givatim, and Dizengoff Square, reaching the main protest site on Kaplan Street in Tel Aviv.
In Haifa, thousands staged a demonstration against the Netanyahu government from the Carmel Center, before gathering at the "Horef" intersection, raising protest slogans against Netanyahu and the government. A number of demonstrators also wore T-shirts bearing slogans condemning the occupation, including "There is no democracy with the occupation."
A mass demonstration was organized at the "Karkur" junction near Hadera. A demonstration was also organized in front of Prime Minister Netanyahu's residence in Jerusalem.
Two people from the extreme right attacked the demonstrators in Bat Yam, tore down banners, and fought fistfights with a number of demonstrators, hitting one of the demonstrators in the face.
The organizers of the protests announced the organization of a "national day" against legislation, next Tuesday, instead of the Monday that they previously set, noting that the postponement of the date aims to create more momentum, while the government prepares to schedule the second and third vote in the Israeli Knesset on a new bill to abolish The excuse of "unreasonableness".
The Israeli police arrested 79 people during the protests that took place last Tuesday, which witnessed widespread demonstrations in various locations and violent clashes with the police, especially in the vicinity of Ben Gurion International Airport in Lod.
The Netanyahu government seeks to make radical amendments to the legal and judicial systems, to almost completely eliminate the Supreme Court's authority for judicial review, and to give the government an automatic majority in the judges' selection committee, which a wide segment of Israelis sees as "targeting democracy and undermining the judicial system."
Since the plan was announced in early January, tens of thousands of Israelis have demonstrated weekly to denounce the text and the government that Netanyahu formed in December.
