A new bill in the Knesset aims to harm the PA economically

The Hebrew newspaper, Haaretz, reported, on Wednesday morning, that a group of members of the Israeli Knesset for the government and opposition coalition parties are promoting a draft bill that would allow so-called "terror victims" to file compensation claims for the attacks they are subjected to.

According to the newspaper, the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee in the Knesset approved yesterday the draft law in first reading, indicating that this law will seriously harm the already shaky Palestinian Authority economy.

The draft law stipulates that those "affected" by the Palestinian Authority's funds can be compensated as it "encourages terrorism" and pays the perpetrators of the attacks a lot of money, considering that "civil damage" claims are an effective tool for creating an economic deterrent force against "terrorist financing".

This project comes in light of the Israeli cabinet's approval of a general framework that guarantees preventing the collapse of the PA and working to stabilize it, which was discussed by the committee in the Knesset yesterday, and the possibility of obtaining compensation from frozen funds was discussed.

It was decided to conduct further discussions to approve the draft law in the second and third readings, in preparation for presenting it to the General Assembly for approval.
