Arab League hold emergency meeting on Israel's Jenin invasion

The Council of the Arab League convened an emergency meeting on Tuesday in Cairo to discuss Israel's attack on Jenin at the request of the State of Palestine.

The Arab states are expected to discuss concrete steps that can be taken, and to call on Israel to stop its aggression and to withdraw immediately from Jenin.

Om Monday, Israeli occupation forces stormed Jenin refugee camp with over 1,000 Israeli soldiers, backed by warplanes and drones. Ten Palestinians were killed and over 100 others were injured, including 20 in a serious or critical condition. More than 1,000 people have fled the area, and the Israeli army has destroyed many homes and infrastructure, as well as cutting off electricity and water to the camp.

The Palestinian population of Jenin refugee camp - mostly hailing from Haifa - were displaced from their homes in 1948. They also faced one of the most intensive onslaughts of the Second Intifada in 2002, where over 50 Palestinians were killed.

The State of Palestine will be represented by its emissary to the Arab League, Ambassador Muhannad Abdul-Karim Al-Aklouk, Senior Counselor Tamer Al-Tayeb, Senior Counselor Rizk Al-Za’anin, and Counselor Jumana Al-Ghoul.
