Dozens of Druze protesters injured in clashes with Israeli occupation forces in Golan Heights
Dozens of residents of the occupied Syrian Golan were injured by Israeli occupation forces in a protest against land confiscations on Wednesday.
Clashes erupted between the residents and the occupation forces in light of a dispute over the construction of wind turbines in the Golan Heights.
Eight people were detained, eyewitnesses said, including Sheikh Salman Faris Shams.
They also said that occupation forces prevented ambulances from reaching the wounded, forcing many to use private vehicles to evacuate the injured.
The Israeli army had prevented landowners from entering their lands since Tuesday, when representatives from the company responsible from the project, and continued to do so with horses and planes.
After the clashes, a general strike was announced in the villages of Majdal Shams, Baqatha, Masada and Ain Qinya, in response to the "arbitrary and criminal" practices of the occupation authorities.
The activists stressed in a statement that the occupation's "arbitrary and criminal measures against us and the right of our lands make us determined on our right decision and our firm position."
The decision to install wind turbines by the government recently gained approval from Israeli planning authorities.
Local residents assert that the move will impede the cultivation of their land, as well as an environmental hazard, though Israeli courts have previously rejected the residents' petition.
The first attempt to began installing wind turbines in December 2020 was met with resistance from the residents of the Golan Heights, who described it as a "declaration of war" on their villages.
