Lapid testifies at Netanyahu's trial

Today, Monday morning, the head of the Israeli opposition, Yair Lapid, testifies before the District Court in Jerusalem as part of the trial of the current Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, in the case known to the media as Case 1000.

According to the Arabic-language Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation, Lapid's testimony will focus on the period of his assumption of the finance portfolio when he refused Netanyahu's request to extend the validity of the tax exemptions law for returnees from abroad with the aim of granting privileges to his friend, wealthy businessman Arnon Milchan, and reporting his income outside Israel to the income tax.

The Public Prosecution seeks, behind Lapid's testimony, to prove the charges against Netanyahu in this file about receiving gifts from Milchin.

According to the indictment, Milchan was the one who initiated contact with Finance Minister Yair Lapid at the time, through his lawyer, with a request authorizing the Minister of Finance to personally extend the tax exemption for returning residents for an additional ten years, as Milchin was then a returnee resident, but Lapid expressed his reservations about the request, explaining that he did not He intends to do this in order to give Milchin this privilege.
