Petition to open a criminal investigation against Gallant and Smotrich

The Yesh Din human rights organization and the Palestinian landowners submitted a petition to the Israeli Supreme Court, requesting the legal advisor to the government in Tel Aviv, Gali Beharev Mayara, to open a criminal investigation against the Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant, and the Minister of Finance, Bezalel Smotrich, on suspicion of violating the law.

The petition - as reported by the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz - indicated that Gallant and Smotrich ordered to allow illegal construction in the "Homesh" outpost, contrary to the opinion of the Israeli army's legal advisor.

The petition alleges that Gallant and Smotrich ordered Israeli army commanders to commit a series of crimes, including breach of trust, aiding illegal construction, soliciting the violation of military orders and abuse of official authority.

The petition demanded the opening of a criminal investigation against the Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army, Herzi Halevi, and the Commander of the Army in the West Bank, Yehuda Fuchs, for these crimes.

He wrote in the petition that if an investigation was not opened, it would be an admission by law enforcement that it was not interested or unable to investigate the violation of the law.

At the end of this month, a hearing will be held on the petition.
