Egypt's foreign minister meets the envoy of the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met today (Tuesday) Ambassador Dafallah Al-Haj Ali, envoy of the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ahmed Abu Zeid, stated in a statement that the Sudanese envoy conveyed to the foreign minister a verbal message from the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi about the developments in the situation in Sudan in light of the ongoing military operations for more than two weeks, thanking Egypt for receiving it. With all the affection and welcome of Sudanese citizens fleeing the flames of war.
Shoukry said during the meeting that President Sisi's directives to all concerned state agencies since the first day (of the outbreak of the Sudanese crisis) are to provide the greatest amount of care and hospitality to the Sudanese brothers.
The Egyptian minister affirmed his country's firm and declared position since the first day of the Sudanese crisis, calling for the necessity of an immediate ceasefire in order to preserve the blood of the Sudanese people, and the importance of the commitment of all parties to fixing the armistice and not violating it in order to provide an opportunity for humanitarian relief operations, heal wounds, and start a serious dialogue aimed at resolving the existing differences.
He stressed that "Egypt is keen to deal with the current crisis in Sudan as an internal matter, and hence its position was established during the meetings that dealt with the situation in Sudan in the League of Arab States, the African Union and the Security Council on the need for all international and regional parties to respect Sudan's sovereignty and not to interfere in the crisis in any way." It leads to fueling conflict and more bloodshed."
Shoukry reviewed all the contacts he made with his counterparts with a number of active and influential countries internationally and regionally, stressing the unity of the international community's message calling for the need to stop the ongoing fighting to protect the capabilities of the Sudanese people and to preserve the safety, unity and national institutions of Sudan.
He expressed Egypt's deep concern about the continuation of the current situation in Sudan, and indicated that it will spare no effort to help the brothers in Sudan overcome this ordeal based on its firm belief in the unity of destiny and the common history between the peoples of the Nile Valley.
Since April 15, Sudan has been witnessing bloody clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which resulted, according to the latest statistics of the Ministry of Health, killing 528 people and wounding 4,599 others.
