Egypt moves its diplomatic mission from Khartoum due to the increasing security risks
Egypt announced today (Wednesday) the transfer of members of its diplomatic and consular mission from Khartoum to another location in Sudan, in light of the increasing security risks in the Sudanese capital.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that "in light of the increasing threats and security risks in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, as a result of the continued armed clashes, the members of the diplomatic and consular mission and the technical offices of the Egyptian embassy were transferred today from Khartoum within the framework of repositioning them in another location in Sudan, so that they can practice their activities." Its work and follow-up on the implementation of the national plan for the evacuation of Egyptians in Sudan, as circumstances require.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zaid said that the concerned state agencies continue to assess the security situation in Sudan around the clock and implement the plan for evacuating citizens to ensure their safe return to the homeland, taking into account the highest priority for the safety of citizens and a safe return to the homeland.
He pointed out that the two Egyptian consular missions in Port Sudan and Wadi Halfa are continuing to assist in the evacuation of Egyptians in Sudan.
In a related context, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received today a phone call from the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, about the developments in the situation in Sudan.
The President of the European Council expressed deep concern about the deteriorating political, security and humanitarian situation in Sudan and its impact on civilians and foreign communities, pointing to the importance of the role played by Egypt to advance efforts to reach a cease-fire and calm the situation in Sudan, according to the statement of the Egyptian presidency.
For his part, President El-Sisi affirmed Egypt's full support for the Sudanese people in the serious crisis they are going through, and reviewed the latest developments in Egypt's efforts to reduce escalation and reach a comprehensive and permanent cease-fire and the contacts it is making in this regard with regional actors at all levels. and internationally.
Al-Sisi stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to activate the political track and peaceful dialogue in a way that pushes towards the return of stability and security and takes into account the supreme interests of the Sudanese people.
Since April 15, Sudan has been witnessing bloody clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, which have killed 512 people and injured 4,193 others, according to the latest statistics of the Sudanese Ministry of Health.
