The death of poet and writer Salma al-Jayousi
Today, Thursday, writer, poet and translator Salma al-Jayousi (95 years old) passed away in the Jordanian capital, Amman, according to a statement published by the family on social media.
Al-Jayousi was born in 1928 AD to a Palestinian father and a Lebanese mother in Safed , Palestine, and grew up in the city of Acre , and in the Al-Baqaa neighborhood in West Jerusalem.
She grew up in Palestine, emigrated after the Nakba of 1948 and lived in Jordan. She studied high school at the German Schmidt College in Jerusalem, studied Arabic and English literature at the American University in Beirut, and obtained a PhD in Arabic literature from the University of London.
The late woman received many awards and honors from many countries in the world, and the General Union of Palestinian Writers and Writers issued her poetry collection, "Keep us safe with time."
In 2019, President Mahmoud Abbas awarded the late Kabira the Medal of Culture, Science and Arts in the Creativity category.
