Egypt announces the return of most of its armed forces from Sudan
The Egyptian army spokesman, Colonel Staff Gharib Abdel Hafez, announced today (Thursday) the return of most of the Egyptian armed forces stationed in Sudan to Cairo and ensuring the arrival of the rest of the soldiers to the Egyptian embassy in Khartoum.
The spokesman said in a statement on his official Facebook page that "in light of the current events in the Sudanese territories and within the framework of close cooperation between all the security services in Egypt and Sudan to secure the return of the Egyptian forces participating in joint training with the Sudanese forces, yesterday, Wednesday, all measures were taken." The necessary coordination with the Sudanese authorities for the landing of three Egyptian military transport planes at an air base in Sudanese territory to carry out the task of evacuating the Egyptian forces under comprehensive security measures for the forces.
The statement indicated that most of the Egyptian forces took off from Sudanese territory through three consecutive flights and returned them to one of the Egyptian military bases in Cairo.
And he added, "This morning, Thursday, and in coordination with the concerned Sudanese authorities, friendly and brotherly countries, and the International Committee of the Red Cross in Sudan, the rest of the Egyptian armed forces arrived at the headquarters of the Egyptian embassy (in Khartoum) in preparation for completing the procedures for their evacuation from Sudanese territory as soon as the situation stabilizes and the appropriate security conditions are available for their return." to the homeland.”
The armed forces confirmed the health and safety of all Egyptian personnel who arrived at the homeland, as well as those present at the Egyptian embassy in Khartoum.
For its part, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement the success of the efforts made by Egypt, in coordination and cooperation with the sister country of the United Arab Emirates, to secure the safety of the rest of the Egyptian soldiers present in Sudan with the Rapid Support Forces, and to hand them over to the Egyptian embassy in Khartoum.
Egypt and the UAE expressed their appreciation to the International Red Cross for its efforts in supporting the process of ensuring the safety of Egyptian soldiers.
The Egyptian and Emirati foreign ministries stated that this step comes within the framework of the two countries' stance in support of calm through continuous communication with the Sudanese parties to ensure restraint, stop escalation, and return to the political track.
The two ministries affirmed the commitment of Egypt and the UAE to continue their efforts aimed at stopping the fighting and protecting civilians and civilian facilities, and stressed the importance of intensifying efforts aimed at returning to the political framework and dialogue to resolve all differences and move forward in the transitional phase to reach the desired political and security stability in Sudan.
Sudan has witnessed bloody clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces since April 15, after the Rapid Support Forces pushed about 100 vehicles towards the Marawi base in northern Sudan, which the army considered an illegal mobilization that took place without coordination with it.
On Wednesday, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces announced their commitment to a humanitarian truce for a period of 24 hours, until six o'clock on Thursday evening.
And the Sudan Doctors Syndicate announced in an unofficial statistic that the death toll from the ongoing clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces has risen to 174.
