Biden and his Argentine counterpart confirm the "economic integration" between their two countries

US President Joe Biden welcomed Wednesday a "tremendous opportunity" to increase economic integration with Argentina, when he received the head of the South American state, Alberto Fernandez, at the White House .

"This meeting is an opportunity to confirm that there is nothing beyond our ability to achieve if we work together," Biden said, sitting next to his Argentine counterpart in the Oval Office.

And the two countries enter the "next century of our partnership" after 200 years of diplomatic relations, according to what Biden added, pointing to "a tremendous opportunity to increase our economic integration."

He pointed out that Fernandez's visit was scheduled for last summer, but it was canceled due to his infection with Covid.

The Argentine president thanked his host for the American support in the relationship between Buenos Aires and global economic bodies. The International Monetary Fund recently announced a new agreement from Argentina that paved the way for the disbursement of $5.2 billion.

Fernandez stressed his country's desire to cooperate with the United States in combating climate change, saying that Argentina is facing the worst drought in its history.

In front of reporters, he later expressed his "satisfaction" with the visit and "confidence that the doors were opened for strategic cooperation with the United States."

Biden seeks to strengthen the relationship with a South American country at a time when Beijing is trying to enhance its influence in Latin America.

Fernandez said that his talks with Biden did not address the issue of China, but he did not specify if it was addressed during broader talks between the Argentine delegation and the American team.
