Biden does not fear a "civil war" in Israel
The White House confirmed on Monday that US President Joe Biden "does not fear the development of matters in Israel into a civil war," in response to a question about the serious crisis in the Hebrew state.
"Israel has a long tradition of democracy," said John Kirby, a spokesman for the US National Security Council.
However, he stressed that the United States has "concerns" regarding the project to amend the judicial system, which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seeks to approve.
On Monday afternoon, 80,000 people, according to Israeli media estimates, demonstrated in the vicinity of the Knesset in Jerusalem, to protest the proposed amendment.
On Monday, Israel's largest trade union called for a general strike, which it believes will have a high rate of compliance in both the public and private sectors.
