Iran vows to respond "immediately" to any attack on Syrian bases
Iran pledges to respond "immediately and mutually" to any attack on bases established on Syrian soil "to combat terrorism" at the request of the Syrian government, an Iranian spokesman said today (Saturday).
This was stated by the spokesman of Iran's National Security Council, Keyvan Khosravi, in response to recent accusations made by some US officials regarding Iran's "engagement" in attacks on what Iran considers "illegal" US bases in Syria , the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.
He stressed that the American side, using "false" accusations, resorted to the blame game to escape the possible consequences of its "illegal occupation" of parts of Syrian territory for its military forces.
He pointed out that Washington could not attribute the confrontations of the occupying countries with the American forces to other countries through "spreading lies."
He stressed that Iran has incurred heavy costs to "combat terrorism and maintain permanent security" in Syria, adding that Tehran will oppose and confront any move that endangers Syria's stability.
Iran has said it has an advisory role in Syria and is in the country at Damascus' request.
